Welcome to Bringing Jesus N2 Focus.
I must confess, I am a little bit nervous putting myself out here on the web, but I feel this is where God is leading me. So, here goes. My name is Pamela Porterfield. I am 5’6”, with blue eyes and brown hair with lots of gray in it. (I earned every bit of it, thank you. Just ask my son.) The rest changes without notice. I’ll tell you up front I never dreamed, when I was in college, that I wouldn’t use my studies in creative writing until 45 years after graduation. My Creative Writing professor and mentor would say, “About time!”
I graduated from Southern Nazarene University (Legacy of Bethany Nazarene College with a Bachelor of Arts in Speech, English, Creative Writing and Drama, with a minor in Education. I have never taught a day of school since but have taught Children’s Church and Sunday School. My current home church is Baton Rouge 1st Church of the Nazarene. We have been in Louisiana for about 32-33 years.
When I began reading in Genesis, I was struck just how many times Jesus was reflected in those Scriptures. Some are very bold pictures and some you might need to read between the lines to see it. Jesus Christ is reflected there in the stories of the men and women who are his human ancestors. In the actions of God Himself, or what humans did in response to God. Some chapters will be people following the leading of God and some a foreshadowing of Jesus. Jesus is everywhere in the Old Testament. It points directly to Him.
I felt led to share what I see with you. I asked God to give me a sign that I was on the right track. Not only did He answer my prayer. He answered it THREE times!!! Once in Sunday School, second in morning worship and third, in our pastor’s sermon. First was what do you do with your leisure time. I’m retired now and have plenty of that. Second was as we sang Brandon Lake’s “Available”. Finally, the pastor spoke on how we are using our God-given talents for Him. So, there you have it. It is my prayer that you will see Him too
